Sights to see at Entoku-in Temple

North garden

The north garden is the front garden of the structure called Kesho-goten, which is where Kitano-mandokoro Nene of Fushimi Castle lived. It remains as it was 400 years ago and is one of the representative Zen gardens of the time. The rocks and stones, which were said to be the most beautiful rocks and stones from throughout Japan, were gathered for Nene by those working under Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Nene was beloved by all, and she would gaze at this garden while praying for the happiness of the family, Hideyoshi’s subordinates. This garden has received the "Japan Designated Place of Scenic Beauty Award" (an Important Cultural Asset designation for gardens) from the Japanese government.

Summer north garden

This garden is a Japanese dry landscape garden. Many rocks are laid out geometrically, expressing a fusion between Zen and the gorgeous and bold warrior spirit of 400 years ago.

Autumn colors north garden

The temple garden is lit up at night in the spring and autumn. The stone arrangements look very beautiful in the dark, like fall leaves set ablaze bright red in the darkness.
